Winter roadtrip 2017/18
Winter has come to Indiana with a vengeance. Luckily, I wasn't there when it started and skipped the first 1.5 half weeks of snow and cold. This year, I didn't go home for christmas but went on my first real US road trip. Giving the time of year, there was only one viable direction: South!
So I prepped my trusty, very old Prius (which hit a quarter of a million miles during the trip), and together with one of my best friends from back home hit the road. In 11 days, our trip would finally take us as far south as the middle of Florida, with stops in Nashville and New Orleans along the way.
So we ended up spending Christmas in New Orleans, which was a very different, but interesting experience compared to a small town in Westphalia. On the 26th, we started out again to our final destination, "Florida". Because in 9 month of "planning", we had never managed to narrow it down more than that. Deciding that driving all the way to Miami would take to much time, we settled on Tampa and Fort Pierce to have time on both coasts and get our much needed infusion of sunlight and beaches.
On Jan 1st we finally had to make our way back north and managed the drive back to West Lafayette in two days, during which the outside temperatures dropped by about 40 degrees centrigrade. Suddenly we found us in a snowy winter-wonderland and freezing a lot, just two days after being on the beach. So we did the only rational thing to do and went for ice cream!
I will write in much more detail about this trip in the next days and weeks, and will put links to those post below. Today I'll start out with a post about all the wonderful birds we saw down south.
